Irrigation 2009/2010 - the season ahead

Friday, October 16, 2009

Willunga Basin Water Company have officially announced that a minimum of 350 ML of new reclaimed water supply will be in place for the 09/10 irrigation season.

Through its participation in the Water Proofing the South Project with the City of Onkaparinga and SA Water, the company now has access to 800 ML of additional storage at the SA Water Aldinga site.

This has further secured the reliable supply of reclaimed water for existing users and allows the badly needed 350 ML expansion of the scheme for the coming irrigation season.

The expansion is to include 20-30 new customer allocations.

A minimum of 116 ML is to be made available to the participants in the McLaren Vale Water Plan (MVWP), administered by MVGWTA.

The balance of the 350 ML expansion will help supply the many growers who have applied for WBWC connections and will also include additional mains water substitution.

WBWC will now be able to supply approximately 45% of the irrigation water to McLaren Vale in a world-class sustainable manner.

An added bonus of the expansion is the environmental benefit arising from further reduced outflow of treated effluent to the Gulf St Vincent at Christies Beach.

For further information, contact Tony Sims, General Manager WBWC on 8323 7633.

Any enquiries regarding the MVWP should be made directly to MVGWTA.
